1. Indian Red Cross Society to buy 1.80 lakh face masks from KVIC

  • Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has received a purchase order from Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to supply 1 lakh 80 thousand face masks.
  • KVIC said, the masks for Red Cross will be made of 100 per cent double-twisted handcrafted cotton fabric in brown colour with red piping. The supply of masks will begin by next month.
  • KVIC Chairman, Vinai Kumar Saxena welcomed the purchase order from the Indian Red Cross Society and said the massive demand of Khadi Face Masks is a major step in the direction of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

2. Phase 5 of Vande Bharat Mission to start from August 1

  • Phase Five of the Vande Bharat Mission is scheduled to start from the August 1st.
  • A total of 792 flights which include 692 international flights and 100 domestic flights have been scheduled under this phase to repatriate Indians from 23 countries.
  • These include GCC countries, US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, China, Israel, and Kyrgyzstan.
  • External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said these flights would cater to 21 different airports in India and repatriate a total of one lakh thirty thousand Indians stranded abroad.

3. First govt run inter-state chopper service flagged off in Uttarakhand

  • In Uttarakhand, the first government run inter-state chopper service that connects Dehradun to Garhwal hills was flagged off.
  • The flight on the Dehradun-New Tehri-Srinagar-Garhwal Gauchar route is operated by the state-run Pawan Hans Limited under the Central Government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme of ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’.
  • The flight was flagged off virtually by the Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
  • The helicopter service would boost Char Dham Yatra tourism since Dehradun has direct connectivity now with Gauchar in Chamoli district.

4. Delhi govt reduces VAT on diesel to 16.75 pct

  • The Delhi government has reduced VAT on diesel from 30 percent to 16.75percent. The decision was taken following a state cabinet meeting.
  • The cut in VAT on diesel would reduce the price of the automobile and industrial fuel in Delhi to 73 rupees 64 paise. The price of diesel will come down by eight rupees 36 paise per litre in the national capital.
  • Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the rate of VAT on diesel was being brought back to 16.75 percent from 30 percent.

  • The World Day against Trafficking in Persons is marked on July 30 every year.
  • The day is observed every year to raise awareness about the menace of human trafficking and to protect the human rights of the victims.
  • The day is also dedicated to promote and protect the rights of people.
  • The 2020 theme for the World Day against Trafficking: “Committed to the Cause-Working on the Frontline to End Human Trafficking”.

6. FIFA approves USD 1.5 billion COVID-19 relief plan regulations

  • Bureau of the FIFA Council approved COVID-19 relief plan regulations of USD 1.5 billion.
  • It aims at supporting all 211 FIFA member associations and the six federations to alleviate the financial impact of the pandemic.
  • FIFA will be working closely with its member associations along with the confederations to assist them in the plan implementation through additional guidelines and educational content.
