1. PM Modi dedicated Kochi-Mangaluru Natural Gas Pipeline to the nation

  • PM Modi dedicated the Kochi – Mangaluru Natural Gas Pipeline to the nation today via video conferencing. It is an important milestone towards the creation of One Nation One Gas Grid.
  • The 450 kilometre long pipeline has been built by GAIL (India) Limited. It has transportation capacity of 12 Million Metric Standard Cubic Metres per day.
  • The total cost of the project was about three thousand crore rupees and its construction created over 12 lakh man-days of employment.
  • The pipeline will supply environment friendly and affordable fuel in the form of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to households and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to the transportation sector.

 

2. “Udyog Manthan” being organized from Jan 4 to March 2

  • Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade is organizing Udyog Manthan – a marathon of focused sector-specific webinars for promoting Quality and Productivity in Indian Industry.
  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will chair the session tomorrow.
  • The webinar series comprising 45 sessions will cover various major sectors in manufacturing and services.
  • Each webinar will be a two-hour session involving discussions led by sectoral and industry experts in a particular sector.
  • Participants will include representatives from industry, testing and standardization bodies.

3. UK PM Boris Johnson announces new national lockdown in England

  • British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a new national COVID-19 lockdown in England, instructing people to stay at home to contain a more contagious variant of the coronavirus.
  • It was first identified in the United Kingdom and now present in many other countries is spreading at great speed.
  • Non-essential shops, primary and secondary schools would have to remain closed.
  • The announcement came just hours after the govt hailed Britain’s success in becoming the first country to begin rolling out the vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca against COVID-19.

4. EAM S Jaishankar on 3-day visit to Sri Lanka from today

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will begin his three-day visit to Sri Lanka today where he will hold talks with the country’s top leadership and discuss issues of mutual and bilateral interests.
  • He is also likely to push for the release of Indian fishermen and hold talks on stalled Colombo port project as well.
  • Amid the Covid pandemic and related travel restrictions in both countries, the visit is being arranged through the air-bubble.
  • During his visit, which will conclude on 7th of this month, he is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, and Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

 

5. Argentine filmmaker Pablo Cesar to head 51st IFFI”s International Jury

  • The International Jury for 51st edition of International Film Festival of India has been announced with eminent filmmakers from across the world.
  • The Information and Broadcasting Ministry in a statement said that the Jury will comprise Pablo Cesar of Argentina as Chairman, Prasanna Vithanage of Sri Lanka, Abu Bakr Shawky of Austria, Priyadarshan of India and Rubaiyat Hossain of Bangladesh.
  • Pablo Cesar is an Argentine filmmaker who has contributed to the African cinema by making the critically acclaimed films; Equinox, the Garden of the Roses, Los dioses de agua and Aphrodite, the Garden of the Perfumes.
