1. PM Modi to chair Virtual Global Investor Roundtable on Nov 5

  • PM Narendra Modi will chair the Virtual Global Investor Roundtable on 5th Nov. The Roundtable is being organized by the Finance Ministry and National Investment & Infrastructure Fund.
  • It is an exclusive dialogue between leading global institutional investors, Indian business leaders and the highest decision makers from the Government and Financial Market Regulators.
  • Finance Minister, Minister of State for Finance, RBI Governor and other dignitaries will also be present on the occasion.
  • The Roundtable will witness participation from twenty of the world’s largest pension and sovereign wealth funds with total Assets under Management of about 6 trillion dollars.

2. Six women led startups win COVID-19 Shri Shakti Challenge organized by MyGov

  • Six women led startups have won COVID-19 Shri Shakti Challenge organized by MyGov in collaboration with UN Women.
  • MyGov launched the COVID-19 Shri Shakti Challenge in April this year in collaboration with UN Women with an objective to encourage and involve women led startups to come up with innovative solutions that can help in the fight against COVID-19.
  • In addition to the earlier announced reward of Rs. 5 lakh for the top 3 winners, UN Women also rewarded Rs. 2 lakh each to the 3 startups chosen for their promising solutions.

 

3. Centre releases Rs 2,200 cr as first installment to 15 states for improvement of air quality

  • The Centre has released 2,200 crore rupees as the first installment to 15 states for the improvement of air quality measures.
  • It will help the beneficiary states to undertake air quality measures, including capacity-building of the local bodies within their million-plus cities.
  • The amount has been released based on the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission.
  • The states which have been given the amount include Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Of the total amount, 396.5 crore rupees has been released to Maharashtra, 202.5 crore rupees to Gujarat, 357 crore rupees to Uttar Pradesh and 209.5 crore rupees to West Bengal.

 

4. Portugal MP Duarte Pacheco elected as President of Inter Parliamentary Union

  • Portugal MP Duarte Pacheco has been elected as the new President of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) for the period 2020-2023.
  • The election process to elect the new IPU President took place through remote electronic secret ballot, with a 24 hour window for casting votes.
  • Earlier, the Governing Council of IPU, Geneva resumed its business during the 206th Session in virtual format.
  • The Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Members of Parliament Poonamben Hematbhai Maadam and Swapan Dasgupta attended the meeting.

5. Legendary violinist T N Krishnan passes away at 92

  • The legendary violinist T.N. Krishnan passed away in Chennai. He was 92. The eminent violinist had received several coveted awards and titles including Padma Vibushan.
  • He started his journey into the musical world as a child prodigy and went on to perform with great legends of his times.
  • Born in Kerala in 1928, he also served as the Dean of the School of Music and Fine Arts, University of Delhi.
  • The legend T.N. Krishnan will be remembered with great reverence for his gracious musical performances and also as an inspiring personality for long.
