1. NITI Aayog to establish Frontier Technologies Cloud Innovation Centre with AWS

  • In order to address societal challenges through digital innovation, NITI Aayog announced the establishment of a Frontier Technologies Cloud Innovation Centre (CIC) with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • It is the first of its kind in India.
  • This initiative provides an opportunity for government agencies, non-profits and educational institutions, to come together on pressing challenges, apply design thinking, test new ideas, and access the technology expertise of AWS.
  • Cloud Innovation Centres programme is designed to be a catalyst for innovation in public sector, by bringing together technology experts to address challenges.

2. India ranks 94 out of 107 nations in Global Hunger Index 2020

  • In the recent Global Hunger Index 2020 released, India has been ranked 94 out of 107 countries and is put in the serious hunger category.
  • The report also shows that 14% of India’s population is undernourished and the country has recorded a 37.4% stunting rate among children under the age of 5 and a wasting rate of 17.3%.
  • The under 5 mortality rate stood at 3.7%.

3. Nozomi Okuhara clinches Women’s Singles title at Denmark Open

  • Former World Champion Nozomi Okuhara clinched the Denmark Open title beating three-time world champion Carolina Marin in women’s singles.
  • The Japanese star took 56 minutes to get the better of the Olympic gold medallist in two games 21-19, 21-17.
  • With reigning world champion PV Sindhu of India opting to sit out the event, two of her biggest rivals made it through to the final.
  • In the men’s singles final, world number seven Anders Antonsen of Denmark defeated Rasmus Gemke by 18-21, 21-19, 21-12.


4. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launches AYUSHMAN SAHAKAR scheme

  • Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched AYUSHMAN SAHAKAR scheme which is a unique way to assist cooperatives play an important role in creation of healthcare infrastructure in the country.
  • AYUSHMAN SAHAKAR scheme has been formulated by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
  • The scheme aims at bringing transformation in the health services primarily in the rural areas.

5. Australia to join Malabar Naval exercise with India, US and Japan

  • Australia will join Malabar naval exercise involving India, US and Japan.
  • Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds said, the Malabar drill is a milestone opportunity for the Australian Defence Force and the exercise showcases the deep trust between four major Indo-Pacific democracies and their shared will to work together on common security interests.
  • The Annual Naval Exercise Malabar-2020 is expected to be held in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea later this year.
  • The exercise will strengthen the coordination between the Navies of the participating countries.
