Rajnath Singh approves new DRDO Procurement Manual-2020

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a new DRDO Procurement Manual-2020.
  • The Defence Minister said, the new DRDO Procurement Manual will facilitate the indigenous Defence Industry by simplifying the processes and ensuring their participation in design and development activities.
  • Defence Minister’s Office said, in a tweet, that this will encourage more participation of the Indian Industry including start-ups and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Research and Development activity and also to achieve the goal of self-reliance in Defence.

Nitin Gadkari lays foundation stone of India’s first-ever multi-modal logistic park in Assam

  • Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for India’s first-ever multi-modal logistic park in Assam.
  • The multi-modal logistic park is being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana of the Central Government.
  • It will provide direct connectivity to air, rail, road, and waterways to the citizens of Assam and other parts of the North East.
  • As per the official statement, the park will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 693.97 crores in Bongaigaon district and will provide employment opportunities to around 20 lakh people.

Centre approves EC proposal for 10% hike in poll spending cap in elections

  • The central government hiked election campaign expenditure by 10 percent for all future elections. The announcement comes just ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections 2020.
  • The Union Ministry of Law and Justice had notified the amendment to the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.
  • Various political parties had requested the Election Commission of India to raise the campaign expenditure limit for candidates citing the pandemic to accommodate the spending on masks, PPE kits, sanitizers, soap and thermal screening during campaigning.

Maharashtra becomes first state in country to cap prices of masks

  • Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to cap the prices of masks. N95 masks will now be available at Rs 19 to Rs 49, while two-layer and three-layer masks will be available for Rs 3 to 4.
  • This maximum selling price limit will be applicable to all mask manufacturing companies / distributors / retailers in the state.
  • They will be required to display the quality of the mask and its fixed max Selling Price.
  • Government and private hospitals / nursing homes / Covid care centers / dedicated Covid hospitals etc. in the state will be required to provide the mask at the rate of 70% of the prescribed maximum selling price limit.
